Project Description
PAFO commissioned Centafrique Consulting to conduct a detailed study to understand and document how agroecology can serve as a transformative pathway for sustainable agriculture in Africa, addressing critical environmental, climate, social, and economic challenges across the continent.
The assignment adopted a participatory, multi-level approach that engaged stakeholders from grassroots farmer organizations, national institutions, regional bodies, policymakers, researchers, and civil society actors. The study combined extensive field consultations with robust monitoring and evaluation tools to assess the impacts of agroecological practices.
Data collection and analysis focused on understanding current agroecological practices, their environmental outcomes, social implications, and economic viability. The study also examined barriers to adoption, identified enabling conditions, and spotlighted successful models across diverse African contexts.
Key outputs included comprehensive findings, actionable policy and programmatic recommendations, and a roadmap to mainstream agroecology into agricultural development strategies. The results aim to support evidence-based advocacy and inform future investments in resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems across Africa.
