The Microsoft Global Social Entrepreneurship Program supports social impact startups with technology, connections and grants so you can focus on bringing your big vision to life and making the world a better place.

Once approved, you will be eligible for:

Microsoft Philanthropies grants for select ventures innovating in skills development, sustainability and accessibility. Connect with large commercial, public sector, and nongovernmental organizations as well as other startups in the social impact space. Startups will also be extended membership into the premium offer from Microsoft for Startups which provides: Free access to Microsoft technologies including $120,000 USD of free Azure cloud and $1,000/month of GitHub Enterprise. Dedicated Go-To-Market resources to help startups sell alongside our global sales team and partner channel.

Disrupt Africa

The selected startups will benefit from a seed investment of €150,000 at the beginning of the program for 5 to 7% equity, then an eventual investment of €500,000 to 1.5 million euros at the end of the program.

These investments will be invested mainly through a partnership with the venture capital firm Azur Partners. For the seed investment, €35,000 is allocated to the cost of running the acceleration program. The selected startups will receive €115,000 from Azur. The program will also benefit from funding from the Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF) and the Innov-Invest program of the Central Guarantee Fund (CCG) with the support of the World Bank

Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund REACT Kenya Relief Fund (Grant funding)

The REACT Kenya Relief Fund is a USD2 million initiative that will award emergency grants to companies operating in Kenya that can demonstrate that (i) they are serving the energy needs of off-grid households in poor rural and peri-urban areas and (ii) they need financial support if they are to safeguard jobs and essential services during the coronavirus pandemic.

Funded by Sweden, and managed by AECF, support will be provided through disbursements of emergency grants (USD50, 000 –USD200,000) to cover short-term working capital needs (3-12 months) and technical assistance for business continuity.

GSMA Innovation Fund

Applications are open for the GSMA Innovation Fund for Mobile Internet Adoption and Digital Inclusion.

The fund is seeking start-ups or SMEs in Sub-Saharan Africa or Asia that are helping people get online for the first time using mobile internet. Funded projects will focus on innovations that overcome a number of the barriers to mobile internet adoption including Accessibility, Affordability, Digital Skills and Safety and Security, and will look to demonstrate commercially sustainable models that can be scaled and replicated in similar environments.

SME/Startup can be eligible to apply for an equity-free grant of between £100,000 and £250,000 (Approx Ksh 13 million and 32.6 million) to scale innovation over a 15- to 18-month period.
